Headlining at Hilarities

Every comedian’s dream is to headline a sold out show. I can’t believe less than 7 years in, I can say that I was able to headline Hilarities - one of the best comedy clubs in the country - which happens to be in my hometown of Cleveland, OH.

The days leading up to my headlining debut flew past like any other day. But the actual day of, the reality and gravity of the situation hit me like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Everything from excitement, to nervousness, and even a little impostor syndrome, coursed through every inch of my body. As I arrived that evening seeing people pour into the club, as well as my name on the marquee, I realized that it was OK to be nervous, as long as I take this all in and cherish every moment.

My stomach stayed in knots up until the host (and my friend) Bill Squire called my name to the stage. After that it was game time, and all signs of inadequacy or insecurity fell away. Looking at that many people that were there to support me, or even to just hear me talk, was one of the most overwhelming experiences I’ve ever had in my life. Easily the most fun I’ve ever had on stage. Those 45 minutes flew by as if time didn’t exist.

That night proved to me without a shadow of a doubt, that dreams really do come true, as long as you’re not afraid to chase them.
